That there is complimentary valet parking available at lunchtime, every week day, when you dine at Rockpool Bar & Grill Perth? That pretty much makes your profiteroles with ice cream, chocolates and hazelnuts more than worth the trip. And with a seasonal menu boasting beautiful Manjimup truffles with hand cut tagliatelle…well…oh, let’s not forget that our Perth baby just picked up Best List by the Glass at the Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine Australian Wine List of the Year Awards!

Rockpool Bar & Grill Melbourne could well be your perfect pre or post – theatre dining option. We open at 6pm for dinner and have a menu of simple classics that are perfectly suited to that “I need to be out by…” moment - think cured ocean trout with celeriac remoulade and horseradish cream on toasted brioche – or fried calamari and chilli salad with romesco. Pop back later for dessert or a light supper, or join us in the bar for a nightcap or beef and guinness pie with mushy peas. In fact, join us any old time to indulge in the perfect grass fed steak from one of Australia’s most incredible meat ageing programs.

And if you didn’t know that Spice Temple Melbourne is serving up the state’s best yum cha, then you must have been hiding under a wok, but what you may not know is that the restaurant just won Best Informal List at the Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine Australian Wine List of the Year Awards! Proud? Yes, just a little! A few of our personal favs are the 2009 Rippon Pinot Noir from Central Otago and the 2012 Crawford River Riesling from Henty in Victoria. We always wash things down, ultimately though, with a Rickshaw. Go team!

Heading back up the coast now and did you know that Spice Temple Sydney is serving what must surely be one of the warmest sounding cocktails ever – the “Silk and Sand” is created from cherry brandy, spice, citrus and Glenmorangie – it certainly sounds like it wants to warm the cockles of my Wintery heart…and in other news, Chef Andy Evans spruiks his stuff at the Sydney Seafood School September 30. Lock it in.

For our last ‘did you know’ moment of the month, we head down to the ever-young Rockpool on George. We do things a little differently down here. We grill over rushes, stir fry milk and make leather from carrots. We scent our potatoes with lavender and our peanuts with star anise. If you haven’t been to the original Rockpool in a while, Phil Wood is doing great things – and soon, we will be gone, up the road to Bridge Street – so come visit us before we do and indulge in a piece of living culinary history.
